FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is specialty-grade coffee?

Specialty-grade coffee represents a quality-focused category of coffee selected for its quality, distinctive character, and cup experience. Specialty coffee has traditionally been associated with coffees achieving 80 points or higher on a 100-point professional evaluation scale.

At Jose Maria’s Coffee, we offer specialty-grade coffee because we believe exceptional quality should be available to everyone—not just coffee experts.

What is the difference between specialty, premium, and commercial coffee?

Specialty coffee is associated with established quality standards and professional evaluation. Premium coffee is a broader term commonly used to describe higher-quality or upscale coffee, but it does not have one universal grading standard. Commercial coffee is generally produced for large-scale availability, consistency, convenience, and accessible pricing.

Each serves a different market. At Jose Maria’s Coffee, we choose to focus on specialty-grade quality while keeping the coffee approachable and welcoming.

When is my coffee roasted?

Our roasted coffee is produced using a roasted-on-demand model. Production begins after your order is received rather than relying solely on finished coffee sitting for extended periods awaiting purchase.

How quickly will my order ship?

Because our coffee is prepared fresh for your order, please allow approximately 2–3 business days for production before shipment.

Transit times vary by destination and carrier.

Do you sell whole bean and ground coffee?

Available options vary by product. Please select your preferred option on the applicable product page.

Whole Bean customers should grind their coffee to the appropriate size for their brewing method before brewing.

Ground Coffee arrives ready to brew.

What is the best way to store coffee?

Keep coffee sealed in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight, moisture, heat, and strong odors.

Avoid unnecessary exposure to air.

How should I brew Jose Maria’s Coffee?

Our recommended starting ratio is approximately one 10-gram scoop of coffee for every 6 fluid ounces of water. Adjust according to your personal taste and brewing method.
